STUDENT-ATHLETE NEWS

Georgia Athletic Association - September 23, 2004

REGISTRATION FOR SPRING CLASSES

We will begin registration on Tuesday, Oct. 19.  No one can register until they have been advised.  If your OASIS registration appointment date is not October 19, please notify Glada Horvat at 542-7955 or by e-mail at glada@.uga.edu.   Be sure you clear all flags (parking tickets, etc) to register.

Several colleges on campus allow students to make advising appointments using the Internet.  Click on your school's page at www.uga.edu to see if you can make your appointment on-line.  Of course, you still have to go and talk with the advisor at the appointed time and please don't be a NO SHOW or you will move to the end of the line and get to register in December!

USE OF SMITH CENTER

Please treat the facility as you would a classroom and remember:

1.  No food or drinks

2.  Appropriate attire (no hats/headwear)

3. Quiet voices

Remember that the computer lab, study area and tutoring program in the Smith Center are provided solely for the use of students participating in the athletic program.  No other students are allowed to use these facilities without permission of the athletic counseling staff.  Also, some students have reported losing papers on the computer before they were finished so please remember to save to your disk along the way and print a hard copy.

LESS THAN 12 HOURS TO GRADUATE?

E-mail Glada Horvat to arrange for a Spring 2005 underload before you register on October 19.

SIX-HOUR RULE

You will not be eligible for post-season competition (SEC/NCAA championship or a bowl game) OR for regular season play during Spring 2005 if you do not pass 6 hours of degree credit during Fall 2004.

ATTENDANCE POLICY

Remember that five unexcused absences in a class will result in suspension from competition according to the athletic policy in your student handbook.  Please direct any questions to your athletic academic counselor.

Students must pass this reading/writing test to graduate.  Transfer students must pass the test within the first two semesters of enrollment!  Sign-up now on OASIS to take it the week of Nov. 1.  Remedial courses are required if not passed by the 45-hour mark.

UGAMAIL  MUST BE CHECKED!!

The official means of communication between the University (professors, registrar's office, etc.) and the student is UGAMAIL.  You must check your e-mail regularly.  You also must keep your mailbox cleaned out.  Several of you (mostly juniors and seniors) have exceeded your quota on UGAMAIL because you need to discard old messages.  E-mail sent to you is returned to the sender if your box is full.  This is vitally important!!!

FOOTBALL TICKET SIGN-UP

Don't forget to sign-up for the remaining home football games by TUESDAY at NOON of game week.  You must sign the book at the front desk of the Rankin Smith Student-Athlete Academic Center to be admitted at Gate 5 of the stadium on game day.  You will have to show your UGA ID at the gate.

FACULTY ATHLETICS REPRESENTATIVE

He is here to address concerns of student-athletes so stop by and talk to him.
